“Idiot. Freak. Retard.” Imagine
being called these words every day of your life. Imagine having no friends
because people think that you’re stupid. Imagine having people bully you
because you are “different.” Imagine people staring, pointing, whispering behind
your back; thinking you can’t understand them. Well, guess what? I do
understand. I have had to deal with all of this since I was little, and it’s
about time other people knew. My name is Lucy, and I’m 16 years old. I have
cerebral palsy, and this is my story. Told
from the perspective of diary entries, this story tells of the difficulties and
struggles a disabled teen has during her quest to be “normal.” However, maybe
being normal isn’t the best thing after all.
